Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card is designed for consumers who prefer straightforward rewards without tracking spending categories or activating quarterly offers. Cardholders earn unlimited 2% cash rewards on eligible net purchases, making the card useful for everyday expenses such as groceries, dining, transportation, subscriptions, and online shopping.
The card also combines a $0 annual fee with an introductory APR offer and a welcome bonus for eligible new cardholders. Although it can provide solid everyday value, applicants should consider its foreign transaction fee, balance transfer costs, and variable APR before applying.
Wells Fargo Active Cash
$0 annual fee Cash rewardsHow the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card works
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card earns two cents in cash rewards for every $1 spent on eligible net purchases. There is no published spending limit on the standard 2% earning rate, and cardholders do not need to select or activate bonus categories.
Net purchases are purchases remaining after returns and credits. Transactions such as balance transfers, cash advances, money orders, person-to-person transfers, gambling transactions, fees, and interest do not earn cash rewards.
Eligible new cardholders can currently earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after making at least $500 in net purchases within the first three months after opening the account. The bonus generally posts within one or two billing periods after the spending requirement is met. Previous Active Cash® cardholders may not qualify for the offer.
Rewards can be redeemed in several ways. Options may include a credit to an eligible Wells Fargo account, covering an eligible previous purchase, travel bookings, gift cards, or using rewards at checkout with participating services such as PayPal. Redemption conditions depend on the selected method and the Wells Fargo Rewards® program rules.
The card also currently offers a 0% introductory APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and qualifying balance transfers. To receive the promotional APR on a balance transfer, the request must be made within the first 120 days after the account is opened.
More advantages of the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card
One of the card’s strongest advantages is its $0 annual fee. Cardholders can earn the standard 2% cash rewards without paying a yearly membership charge, making it easier to receive ongoing value from ordinary spending.
Additional benefits include:
- Cell phone protection: Cardholders who pay their eligible monthly wireless bill with the card may receive coverage for qualifying damage, theft, or involuntary and accidental separation.
- Auto rental collision damage waiver: The benefit may cover eligible theft or collision damage when the entire rental is paid with the card and the rental company’s collision coverage is declined.
- Visa Signature® Concierge: Eligible cardholders receive access to assistance with travel bookings, dining reservations, event tickets, and other requests.
- Roadside Dispatch®: Cardholders can access a pay-per-use roadside assistance service without paying membership dues.
- Travel and emergency assistance: The benefit can help coordinate eligible medical, legal, transportation, and emergency services while traveling.
- Emergency card replacement: Visa can assist eligible cardholders when a card is lost or stolen.
Cell phone protection currently provides up to $600 per approved claim after a $25 deductible. Coverage is limited to two paid claims and a total of $1,200 during a 12-month period. The wireless bill must be paid with the eligible card, and limitations and exclusions apply.
Cons to consider before applying
The card charges a foreign transaction fee, which makes it less attractive for frequent international spending. Purchases converted into U.S. dollars are currently subject to a 3% fee.
The flat 2% rewards structure is simple, but it may not deliver the highest possible return in categories such as dining, groceries, gas, or travel. Consumers willing to manage bonus categories may earn more with another card.
Balance transfers are also not free. Although qualifying transfers can receive the introductory APR, a transfer fee is added to the balance. Applicants should calculate whether the potential interest savings exceed that upfront cost.
After the promotional period, any remaining balance becomes subject to the card’s regular variable APR. Carrying debt at that rate can quickly reduce the value earned from cash rewards. The card is generally most valuable for consumers who can pay their statement balance in full or repay promotional balances before the introductory period expires.

How to apply for the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card
Consumers can apply through the official Wells Fargo credit card website. The application generally requires a legal name, residential address, date of birth, Social Security number or other requested identification, contact information, employment details, and income information.
Wells Fargo may verify the information provided, obtain consumer credit reports, and review the applicant’s credit, employment, and income history. The bank does not publish a guaranteed minimum credit score for approval, and meeting a commonly suggested score range does not ensure acceptance.
Applicants should also review the card’s eligibility restrictions. Wells Fargo states that consumers may not qualify for another Wells Fargo-branded consumer card if they opened one within the previous four months. Applicants may also be ineligible for the Active Cash® introductory rates, fees, or welcome bonus if they currently have the card or opened it within the previous 48 months.
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Credit Card can be a strong everyday option for consumers who value simplicity, unlimited 2% cash rewards, a welcome bonus, and no annual fee. Its introductory APR and additional Visa benefits add usefulness, but the card is best suited to people who can manage balances responsibly and do not frequently make international purchases.
Review the current offer, rates, eligibility rules, and benefit limitations on the official Wells Fargo website before submitting an application.
