Wells Fargo Personal Loans provide unsecured financing for eligible existing customers who need funds for debt consolidation, home improvements, major purchases, medical expenses, emergencies, or other qualifying personal needs. Borrowers can currently request between $3,000 and $100,000 and repay the balance through fixed monthly payments over a predetermined term.
Unlike secured financing, Wells Fargo Personal Loans do not require a home, vehicle, or another asset as collateral. However, the product is available only to existing Wells Fargo customers who have maintained a qualifying consumer product for at least 12 months. Approval, available amount, APR, and repayment term depend on the applicant’s credit history, income, requested amount, and other underwriting factors.

A Wells Fargo Personal Loan is a fixed-rate installment loan. Approved borrowers receive the money in one lump sum and repay the balance through monthly principal-and-interest payments that generally remain the same throughout the loan term.
Loan amounts range from $3,000 to $100,000. For loans between $3,000 and $4,999, repayment terms range from 12 to 36 months. Loans of $5,000 to $100,000 may have terms ranging from 12 to 84 months. Available options depend on the amount requested and the applicant’s qualifications.
Customers can begin by checking personalized loan options online. This initial step uses a soft credit inquiry and does not affect the credit score. If the borrower selects an option and submits a complete application, Wells Fargo obtains a full credit report. This hard inquiry may affect the applicant’s credit score.
The loan can be used for many personal purposes, including debt consolidation, home repairs or renovations, large purchases, and unexpected expenses. However, Wells Fargo specifically states that it does not make Personal Loans for educational purposes.
More Advantages
One of the main advantages is predictable repayment. Because the APR is fixed, borrowers can plan around a consistent monthly payment and a defined repayment period rather than dealing with a variable interest rate.
Another advantage is the absence of several common borrowing charges. Wells Fargo Personal Loans have no origination fee, closing fee, or prepayment penalty. Borrowers can therefore make additional payments or repay the loan completely ahead of schedule without an early-payoff charge.
Existing customers may also qualify for relationship discounts. Customers with certain qualifying Wells Fargo consumer checking accounts who enroll in automatic payments from a Wells Fargo deposit account may receive an interest-rate discount of 0.25 or 0.50 percentage points, depending on the account. If automatic payments are canceled, the interest rate and corresponding payment may increase.
The application and funding process can also be relatively quick. Most customers receive a credit decision on the same day. After approval and acceptance, customers with a Wells Fargo Checking or Savings account can have the funds deposited into that account on the same day they complete the loan agreement.
Cons of Wells Fargo Personal Loans
The biggest eligibility limitation is the existing-customer requirement. Applicants must already be Wells Fargo customers and have a qualifying consumer product that has been open for at least 12 months. Someone without this established relationship cannot immediately apply for the Personal Loan.
Approval is also not guaranteed. Wells Fargo considers creditworthiness, income, requested amount, term, and other financial information. The bank does not publish a universal minimum credit score for the product, and applicants with weaker credit profiles may receive higher rates or may not qualify.
The lowest advertised APR is also available only to highly qualified applicants. Borrowers should not assume that the rate displayed at the bottom of the advertised range will be offered to them.
Late fees may still apply, even though there are no origination, closing, or prepayment fees. Florida residents may also be subject to a state documentary stamp tax.
Longer repayment terms can reduce the monthly payment but increase the amount of interest paid over the life of the loan. Debt consolidation can similarly make multiple payments easier to manage without necessarily reducing the total cost or helping the borrower become debt-free sooner.
Wells Fargo Personal Loan Rates and Fees
Wells Fargo currently advertises fixed APRs ranging from 6.74% to 26.74%. These rates were listed as of July 10, 2026 and are subject to change. The actual APR depends on factors such as the loan amount, repayment term, and credit history.
The advertised lowest APR is based on a personal loan of at least $10,000 with a three-year term and includes a 0.25-percentage-point relationship discount. Wells Fargo states that the lowest available rate assumes an excellent credit history and that only a portion of approved applicants receive it.
Depending on the qualifying checking account, eligible borrowers may receive either a 0.25% or 0.50% relationship interest-rate discount when automatic payments are made from a Wells Fargo deposit account. Only one relationship discount can be applied to an application.
There is no origination fee, closing fee, or prepayment penalty. However, late fees and certain state taxes may apply.
Before accepting an offer, borrowers should compare the APR, monthly payment, term, total interest, and total amount expected to be repaid. A lower monthly payment is not necessarily the least expensive option when it extends repayment over several additional years.
How to Apply
The first requirement is having an eligible Wells Fargo customer relationship for at least 12 months. Customers who meet that requirement can start by checking their personalized loan options online without affecting their credit scores. Applications may also be completed by phone or with a banker at a Wells Fargo branch.
Applicants should be prepared to provide information including:
- Social Security number or ITIN;
- Date of birth and citizenship status;
- Permanent physical address;
- Employment information;
- Gross monthly income and income sources;
- Monthly housing payment;
- Loan purpose;
- Desired loan amount and term.
Wells Fargo may also request supporting documents such as recent pay stubs, W-2 forms, tax returns, utility bills, or identification documents.
After the borrower selects a loan option and submits the application, Wells Fargo performs the full credit review. Most customers receive a decision the same day, although additional verification can extend the process.
If approved, the borrower reviews and signs the agreement. Customers with a Wells Fargo Checking or Savings account can receive the proceeds in that account on the same day the loan documents are signed. Customers without one of those deposit accounts may receive a cashier’s check, which typically takes five to seven business days to arrive by mail.
Wells Fargo Personal Loans may be worth considering for established customers who want unsecured financing, fixed monthly payments, multiple repayment terms, and no origination or prepayment fee. However, borrowers should carefully compare the final APR and total repayment cost with alternatives from other banks, credit unions, and online lenders before accepting an offer.
